A Frame Apart Episode 81 - Guillermo del Toro: His Superheroes | Modern Superior

This week we venture into the wonderful world of Guillermo del Toro’s Superheroes! We’re looking at Blade IIHellboyHellboy II, and Pacific Rim. We talk about how antithetical Blade is as a superhero to del Toro’s love of sympathetic monsters, how he made up for that with Nomak, Hellboy as a blue-collar, workaday hero, and his giddy fan-boy love of Kaiju films as brought to life in the incomparable Pacific Rim. All this and so much more as we continue our journey through del Toro’s filmography.

Next week we start to wrap things up with del Toro’s films from periods of growth and transition: MimicCrimson Peak, and that Toronto-made fish sex movie, The Shape of Water.
