A Frame Apart Episode 72 - The Thing VS The Thing VS The Thing VS The Thing | Modern Superior

To start the new year we’re headed to Antarctica!

Well, not really. But with this Bomb Cyclone providing a record-breaking cold snap, feels like we’re not far off!

No, we’re headed there by way of the work of John W. Campbell, Christian Nyby and Howard Hawks, John Carpenter, and Matthijs van Heijningen Jr: it’s The Thing versus The Thing versus The Thing versus The Thing. Or, more accurately, “Who Goes There?”, Campbell’s short story from 1938, The Thing From Another World by Nyby and Hawks from 1951, Carpenter’s iconic The Thing from 1982, and the less than stellar prequel, The Thing, from 2011. We dig into all of the above, discussing the progression through various adaptations, culminating with a fairly foul taste in our mouths.
