It’s October, which can only mean one thing: Halloween is just around the corner! This week on A Frame Apart, we discuss our favourite Halloween movies as kids, the magic of the season, and the importance of truly celebrating that which gives us joy. Through the Jim Varney-starrer Ernest Scared Stupid (1991) and the cult classic Hocus Pocus (1993), we open up into broader discussions of nostalgia, familial traditions around the holidays, and how, as kids, we used to base our holiday viewing around the TV Guide, instead of Video on Demand. So come, little children, we’ll take you away into a land of spookables and boogins to start off our month of Halloween goodies!

I haven’t seen either Hocus Pocus or Ernest Scared Stupid since childhood, however I have much more fond memories of Ernest P. Worrell. My favourite of the Ernest films have always been Ernest Saves Christmas, Ernest Goes to Jail, and Ernest Scared Stupid. In fact, I was tempted to get Ernest Goes to Jail on blu-ray when I saw it on sale in the CNE Warehouse Outlet.
